Why are we called Sift and Sort ?

Take a look at our LCD TV Best Buys page, which is a good example of how we work. We carefully built up a list of LCD TVs which we thought were worth considering - eliminating tired old TVs, too expensive TVs, hard to get hold of TVs, TVs with poor customer feedback, and so on.

From that long list, we then came up with a shortlist of LCD TVs, each of which we think would make a good purchase. At this point, we had the most difficult decision - which shortlisted TV would become our 'Best Buy' ? We explain why each shortlisted TV is good enough to be shortlisted, and why the Best Buy is just that.

The final step was to search the Internet for the best prices for the Best Buy LCD TV. To do this we used Amazon, Google, our own list of online shops, and price comparison sites. We give you the links to the online shops where you can get the keenest prices. As you can see, we SIFT through the maze of products available online, and SORT out the best products for you to buy, and where to buy them.

Keeping it Up To Date

As an Amazon associate, they provide us with a 'web service' which we can use to get their latest prices. We do this every hour, so that you will always see up to date prices. If you let your mouse hover over a product link, we'll call the Amazon web service and pop up a little window which shows you the very latest price and availablilty. Try it here: Latest Harry Potter Book. If you follow the link, it'll take you to the product's page on amazon.co.uk.

Other Pages

As we built up a list of LCD TVs during our 'Sift and Sort' process, we can easily provide two more type of page which give you alternative views of the list. The LCD TV Catalogue page is the full list of LCD TVs which we considered. If you wish, you can carry out your own 'Sift and Sort' process from our raw list. You can sort the list in many different ways.

Then we have the LCD TV Top Sellers page, which is simply the top ten LCD TVs from our full list which were sold by Amazon in the last hour.

Of course, we don't just review LCD TVs! We've also reviewed DVRs, DVD Players, Skype, iPods, MP3 Players and USB Keys. We'll be reviewing many more types of product in the next few weeks. Note that when we introduce a new term, we display it in italics. If you let your mouse hover over it, we'll pop up an explanation. Try it here: Freeview
